Homemade Hamburger Helper Mix
This homemade Hamburger Helper mix is a much healthier and cheaper version of the box mixes, great to have on hand.
Ingredients - 2½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ cup garlic powder
- ½ cup dry parsley
- 1 cup onion soup mix
- 2 ½ Tbs salt
- 2 ½ cups dry milk
- ½ cup beef bouillon
Directions Mix and store in sealed container. Use ½ cup per pound of meat.
Homemade “Hamburger Helper” Recipe
- 1 pound ground beef (brown & drain)
- 1/2 cup of mix above
- 2 cups noodles (I usually use elbow macaroni or egg noodles)
- 2 cups water
Mix together browned meat and dry mix. Mix in the water and noodles. Stir well, there may be some small lumps, don’t worry, that’s normal. Bring to a boil over a medium-high heat until mixture boils. Let it boil about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Lower heat, cover and simmer until noodles are cooked, about 15-20 minutes. Depending on how many you are feeding, you can adjust the amount of water & noodles.
Variations to “Hamburger Helper” Recipe
Cheeseburger “Hamburger Helper” Add 2 cups grated cheese at the end of cooking. I usually use cheddar or Colby. You can also use Velveeta instead of grated cheese.
Chili “Hamburger Helper” Recipe Add one can diced tomatoes, one can of red kidney beans and 1 Tbs of chili powder.
